2011 SPEA FIM TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
- ROUND THREE - POBLADURA DE LAS REGUERAS, SPAIN
Twelve times FIM Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin's appearance at the Spanish Trial Grand Prix, held at Pobladura de las Regueras, was very short lived as the thirty-five year old was forced to retire after just three sections. Lampkin crashed heavily on the third steep and dusty hazard and in doing so aggravated his on going ankle injury, which was originally sustained at the Scottish Six Days Trial back in early May. Dougie missed both days of the French GP in an attempt to be fit for this round, but in the end circumstances transpired against him once again.
Dougie explained. "I knew coming into this event that my ankle was nowhere near 100%, but I felt that there had been some level of improvement since not riding in France. Having missed my first GP ever in my long career due to injury last month, I was determined to make a fast return to the championship. The problem is although the ankle is definitely stronger, you only need one crash like I made today to be back to square one."
"I am hoping I have not too much damage to the ligaments, as I want to be as fit as possible for next weekend's extreme enduro in Austria. Erzberg is tough enough when you are fully fit so I know it is going to be a big struggle next weekend. I will try to have some further treatment on my ankle when I get back to the UK, but in reality I will only have very limited time before we head out to Austria." Lampkin continued.
"One small mistake in Scotland is now becoming a real disaster. That said, I have been very lucky with injuries throughout my career, so I suppose I was due to have one that was going to disrupt me at some stage. Like always I will work as hard as I can to get back to riding as soon as possible, as I certainly do not feel comfortable at all being a spectator." Ended a dejected Dougie.
